Seven months ago, I spent the day hanging out with the very sweet and talented guys of Southpaw, to sonically document their last gig with Luke Newman in the band.
They informed me, that Luke would continue to be a part of Southpaw – and that they will work together in the future – but for now, Luke wants to independently explore his musical world.
Southpaw’s work has brought together bands from all over South East London, and formed the foundations of a evening that was once known as ‘Sun Dance’ (and then ‘Steeze’) in the Honor Oak pub. Since then, the nights have been renamed and the location has changed, but the philosophy remains the same. Ultimately the night is about bringing together community and enjoying and fully embracing art.
We decided to release it as an Elektrik Dokumentary. Sporadically coming out over the next year, these dokumentaries hope to continue to look at the life of musicians in London and Worldwide.
Steez (previously called ‘Steeze’) is a monthly event in South London.
